Broadway hit Dear Evan Hansen is being turned into a movie! Ben Platt will reprise his role as Evan Hansen and was torn between stepping back into the character or giving the role to someone else.
“Having an opportunity to share this story with, like, millions more people is ultimately much more important than my being worried that my performance won’t be as good as it was on stage,” Platt told NME.
The movie was picked up by Producer Marc Platt, Ben Platt’s father, and Universal Pictures, said Looper. The movie will premiere on Friday, September 24, 2021 in theaters and “will feature songs from the Broadway version as well as two new songs.”
Dear Evan Hansen premiered on Broadway in 2016.
Broadway will be opening back up in September with Dear Evan Hansen, the musical, slated to hit the stage on December 11, 2021.
