Thursday, February 25, Mayor Joe Hogsett and the Marion County Public Health Department set new COVID-19 restrictions allowing bars and restaurants in Indianapolis to stay open later and seat more people. Not only does this mean more revenue for restaurants and bars hit hard during the pandemic, but the city will now be able to accommodate more people during March Madness.
WISH-TV interviewed a few different local restaurants getting their take on the new restrictions. Jeff Huron, the General Manager of The District Tap downtown, said “You know, as a city, I was worried we wouldn’t be able to keep up, you know, with people coming into town; they want to have a good time, eat, drink, have fun.”
Starting Monday, March 1, “bars can open at 50% capacity, which doubles the previous capacity limits, and curfew will be pushed from midnight to 2 a.m. Restaurants can seat up to 75% capacity indoors starting Monday” reported WISH-TV. However, some restrictions will not be lifted. Restaurants and bars still have to maintain 6 feet social distancing so smaller-sized places won’t be able to increase their capacity which could result in a loss of income during the month of March.
