Britney Spears has been under a conservatorship (Investopedia defines it as “a court appoints a person to manage an incapacitated person or minor’s financial and personal affairs”) since 2008. Her dad has been in control of her finances and general life decisions like marriage and having children. She tried to become legally independent, but a judge extended her conservatorship until September 2021, according to E! News.
A lot her fans have rallied together in a movement to #freebritney and now there’s a whole documentary about it coming to FX and FX on Hulu. “Framing Britney” comes out Friday, February 5. Peep the trailer below:
