Fun Facts About The Horseless Carriage AKA The Bike

If you’re going to be hitting the Monon trail on your bike you might as well have some interesting facts to shout at other bikers as they pass “ON YOUR LEFT!!”

Like did you know that the original machine that lead to what we know as the bicycle today was invented by a German guy who wanted a horseless carriage that he could move with his feet?

Orville and Wilbur Wright- you know, those guys who hooked us up with flight? They actually operated a small bike repair shop in Ohio and used that same workshop to build the 1903 Wright Flyer!

There are about 100 Million bikes manufactured worldwide every year.

The Netherlands does a good job contributing to that worldwide number. In the US less than 1% of all trips are done on bike where the Dutch do about 30% of their trips on bikes.
