A few Hoosiers and race fans will be able to watch the Indy 500 in person this year!
The Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS) is allowing 25% of fans to watch the race, but some rules will have to be followed including
- All guests must wear a face mask
- Seats will be assigned based on proper social distancing guidelines
- Everyone will have their temperature checked before entering
- Water fountains and misting stations will be removed
- Concession stands will mostly sell pre-packaged food
- Signage and staff will be stationed throughout the area to ensure rules and practices are followed
The IMS is also taking precautions with other race week festivities and canceling the following events: all concerts, VIP Red Carpet, Indiana Press Foundation’s Last Row Party, Legends Day, 500 Festival Parade. However, key 500 Festival events will be shown digitally.
WISH-TV interviewed Mike Miles, Penske Entertainment Corp. president & CEO, who said “‘Everything will be different about this year’s race, from the reduced crowd size, to a new distanced seating arrangement, to mandatory masks and a live broadcast throughout Central Indiana. We will welcome fans to the ‘500’ based on a highly detailed, careful plan that was developed in collaboration with national, state and local health experts.'”
The 104th running of the Indy 500 will take place August 23 and will be aired live on NBC.
