Marion County No Longer Prosecuting For Minor Marijuana Possession

The Marion County Prosecutor announced yesterday that they no longer will prosecute people who are found in possession of less than an ounce of weed according to WTHR. “Too often, an arrest for marijuana possession puts individuals into the system who otherwise would not be” Ryan Mears said. Under the old rules people could be fined $1,000 or spend up to 180 days in jail which clogs up the system rather than putting their energy toward bigger issues facing Indy like the record high shooting deaths. They want to focus more on violent crime and not on a little bit of Satan’s Salad. They also are going to look into expunging the records of people who have minor marijuana possession charges.  This isn’t a free pass though! Smoking or selling that little bit of ganja can still get you popped by the police or if you’re under 18 so be good!
